Jaguars Keep Exploring Options
After David Garrard played a poor game for the second week in a row Sunday, the Jaguars brought in another quarterback as they claimed Trent Edwards off waivers in the wake of Buffalo's decision to cut him.
The Jaguars are keeping Bouman for now but Edwards figures to become the backup once he gets up to speed on the Jaguars system.
And he will give the Jaguars an alternative if Garrard keeps struggling.
To make room for Edwards, the Jaguars waived linebacker Alvin Bowen.
Of course, it remains to be see how good Edwards actually he. He has started 32 of 34 games since being selected in the third round of the 2007 draft by the Bills.
He has passed for 25 touchdowns and 27 interceptions and a 76.8 passer rating.
Edwards made a positive impression on the Jaguars in 2008 when he led the Bills to a 20-16 victory, completing 20 of 25 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown.
The Jaguars liked him coming out of Stanford and were impressive with his character, size and skill set and they hope he needs only a fresh start.
Since the Jaguars are likely to draft a quarterback in the early rounds next year, Edwards isn't the long-term answer. But he could be a stopgap if they dump Garrard and his big salary next year
