Cecil Shorts Scouting Report

The Jaguars went offense for the third time in three picks as they selected Mount Union wide receiver Cecil Shorts. Here's the quick scouting report on the D-3 standout.

Cecil Shorts

School: Mount Union

Height: 5-11

Weight: 205lbs

PROS:
Adequate size for the wide receiver position. Displayed a strong upper body at the NFL Combine with 21 reps of 225lbs. Had ridiculous production at Mount Union, nearly 5,000 career receiving yards. Is a converted quarterback and understands coverages and where the quarterback will be looking for the receiver. Does a nice job running his routes and getting in and out of his breaks fluidly. Catches the football with his hands and plucks it out of the air.

CONS: There will be questions about his ability to due lack of facing elite level talent and struggling during the week of East West Shrine practice. Entered the week with lots of hype and quickly squashed it after a ho-hum week of practice. Lacks great size and top end speed that typically make small school receivers catch NFL scout's eyes. Does not block well and change of direction speed is just so-so.
