Sullivan Helped Recruit Jags #1 Receiver

Posted Mar 27, 2012

The Jaguars hiring of wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan is already paying dividends as he was instrumental in acquiring Laurent Robinson.

This time, Laurent Robinson can work with Jerry Sullivan in an official NFL capacity. Robinson, the wide receiver the Jaguars signed in free agency, worked out last summer with Sullivan during the NFL lockout. Robinson was a free agent at the time. Sullivan didn't coach last season, but joined the Jaguars when Mike Mularkey took over as head coach in January.

"I knew him from when I was coming out for the draft. He wanted me at San Francisco," Robinson said of Sullivan.

The 49ers didn't draft Robinson, the Atlanta Falcons did in the third round of the 2007 draft. Robinson spent two years with the Falcons, the second of which was under Atlanta coach Mularkey.

His time with Mularkey and what he learned from Sullivan last summer helped convince the former Illinois State standout to leave Dallas and sign with the Jaguars a week ago. Robinson produced career-best numbers in 2011 for the Cowboys with 54 receptions, 858 yards (15.9 average) and 11 touchdowns. He had a streak of five straight games with a touchdown catch.

"I learned a lot of things from him (Sullivan)," Robinson said. "I think he had a great part of how I accomplished so much as I did last year and to be able to play for him and learn from him every day is going to be huge.

"He's going to get me where I want to be."
