Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last week against Houston.

Spicer finished with seven tackles (six solo) with one sack, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and a team-high four quarterback pressures. Spicer made a key play early in the fourth quarter with the Jaguars leading 23-9. The Texans moved the ball to the Jaguars 21-yard line before Spicer sacked Matt Schaub on the 10th play of the drive and forced a fumble. The fumble was recovered by linebacker Daryl Smith who returned it 77 yards for a touchdown.

Spicer leads the Jaguars with three sacks and 11 quarterback pressures through five games. He has recorded a sack in back-to-back games. In his eighth year from Saginaw Valley State, this is the first Player of the Week Award for Spicer. He is the first Jaguars defensive player to win the honor since Rashean Mathis won it in Week Two last year.
