Entering the 2007 season for the Houston Texans, the players that immediately came to mind as game changers were quarterback Matt Schaub, running back Ahman Green, wide receiver Andre Johnson, defensive end Mario Williams, defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, linebacker DeMeco Ryans, and cornerback Dunta Robinson. There is one wideout that is seldom mention...

A few of those guys, such as Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans had fantastic years, and a quite a few of those guys have missed some significant time with various injuries. Despite suffering through key injuries to star players, the Texans are poised to match their franchise high in wins with a victory over the Jaguars on “Battle Red Day” in Houston. One other player that has helped keep the Texans afloat this season has been Andre Davis.

Andre Davis is a talented 28-year old wide receiver who is currently on his fourth NFL team in six years. Coming into this season, Davis had a little mix of everything you would like in a wide receiver, without having the "it factor" that it makes to be a star. Davis isn't short, at 6'1", but he isn't extremely tall like the Jaguars wide receivers. Davis is quick, but he doesn't have sub-4.4 speed that can get him to run away from any corner in the league. Davis had solid hands, but sometimes drops passes. Davis has been explosive in flashes during his career, but hasn't really done enough to stick around anywhere.

It appears that this season Davis has finally found his spot in Houston. Despite starting just eight games, and clearly not being the Texans number one receiver option, Davis has caught 32 balls for 563 yards and a 17.6 yard per catch average. Those numbers eclipse what he did in the last three years combined, and mark the third-highest total of his career, while starting just half the season. Those are the numbers of a big play guy, and that's exactly what Andre Davis is. Although Andre Davis has never started more than eight games in a season, he has had four years which he's caught a pass of 49 yards or better, including 2007. Davis has 17 touchdowns in just 27 career starts, and can change a game on one single route. Another way that Andre Davis can take over a game is in the kickoff return department. Davis ranks in the top five in kickoff returning with a 27.2 yard per return average including a 97 yard kickoff return touchdown this year.

When the Jaguars defense lines up against the Texans offense with their dink and dunk passing game, they have to be aware of where Andre Davis is whenever he's on the field. He may be considered the "other Andre" when referring to the Texans wide receivers, but he has made big plays in nearly every game he's played in this season. The deep threat of Davis could be enough to open up the underneath for the Texans passing game, and could lead to the Houston's continued mastery of the Jaguars, on their famed “Battle Red Day.”
