As the details of the deal arise, we will find out whether the Jaguars received a "hometown discount" for Jones' services, or if they possibly overpaid for a non-premium position. The good news is that the team should maintain continuity in the backfield of the league's second-ranked rushing attack.
The Jaguars front office likely realized that re-signing the 26 year old Jones was better than the alternatives, one of which was opting for special teams extraodinaire Montell Owens at fullback, who is a little undersized for the position at 5'10", 220 lbs. Other free agent options that could've been available to Jacksonville were Carolina fullback Brad Hoover, Kansas City's Kris Wilson, Minnesota's Tony Richardson, Philadelphia's Thomas Tapeh, or Pittsburgh's Dan Kreider.
