With most of the fireworks of free agency over, it's time for the Jaguars to turn their attention to…
Jaguars Draft Scout
Derrick Harvey is another candidate at the end spot but there are some drawbacks to his selection. The Jaguars used a late-round pick to acquire Bobby McCray from Florida in what looked like a steal before the team realized that what made him a late pick -- inconsistency of taking plays off -- proved to be true. There's a similar concern with Harvey, also a Gator, who has talent and excellent speed around the corner but there are concerns with his 6-5 and 250 size being enough to ward off opposing tackles.
The Jaguars do like his quickness off the ball, however, and his 4.65 speed in the 40 shows he can get to the quarterback in a hurry. Whether he has too many similarities to McCray could keep him from becoming a Jaguar.
If all the top ends are gone by the time the Jaguars' 26th pick comes up, the team will likely focus on a defensive tackle. North Carolina's Kentwan Balmer has played both tackle and end in college. He's currently over 300 pounds so he'd likely begin on the inside, but could shave some weight if the team feels he's more suited to play as an end. He had knee surgery in 2005 but that appears to be a thing of the past. The team likes him enough that he could be tapped if the quality ends are gone.
