The Jaguars could be getting close to locking up quarterback David Garrard for a long-term contract ... or maybe not.

Garrard's agent, Al Irby, told the Florida Times-Union this week that "it could take two days, two weeks or not get done at all. This is the way negotiations go. One minute you're going down the right track, but then a snag can set you back."

Two weeks ago in a radio interview, Garrard stated that he thought that his agent and the Jaguars were getting close to getting a new contract put together.

Garrard actually has a year remaining on his current deal that calls for him to make just under $2 million a year. But that pact was put together when Garrard was serving as a backup to Byron Leftwich. After last year's strong showing in which he finished with a quarterback rating over 100 in his first starting season with the club, talk of a new contract started immediately after the season ended.
