Defensive Tackle Signed to Stop the Run

One of the Jaguars perceived needs entering the draft was on their defensive line, at both defensive end and defensive tackle. Here is a signing the Jaguars made to help stop the run from a defensive tackle perspective.

The Jaguars addressed their defensive end needs, but couldn’t find enough value in their spots to add any depth on the inside. One of their initial calls after the selection process finished was to former Vanderbilt defensive tackle, Theo Horrocks.

Theo Horrocks measures in at 6’3”, 295 lbs., and has been clocked as low as 5.08 in the 40-yard dash. Horrocks is more of a run-stopping tackle, than a pass rusher, and could be a rotational guy for an NFL team so long as he can make a contribution on special teams.

A very steady hard blue collar working college football player. Plays hard and I felt he did a particularly good job of recognizing and reacting within the run game. Felt he did a good job of working to the outside to the ball (can flatten) and is a high effort player. Has very limited pass rush skills. Lacks get off quicks, hand use, and counter moves. Made little progress, and seldom finished. Like his motor and the intangibles that he brings to game. Free agent.

Does Horrocks have a chance of making the Jaguars roster? Possibly. The Jaguars have some talent already at defensive tackle with John Henderson, Rob Meier, Tony McDaniel, Derek Landri, and Jimmy Kennedy, and they will likely only keep four tackles. If Horrocks plays well in training camp, anything is possible.
