The Jaguars defense gave an inspired effort in their 23-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers…
His return was welcome news to the Jaguars defensive unit, which has been at less than full strength from that position.
With No. 1 draft pick Derrick Harvey entering his fifth week as a holdout at the defensive end spot, backup James Wyche already placed on the DL for the year and reserve Jeremy Mincey still mending a broken wrist suffered this spring in OTAs, the Jaguars needed a solid showing from Hayward with the regular-season opener just two weeks away.
Harvey's value for opening day against Tennessee continues to decrease with the continuation of his holdout. The Jaguars sweetened their offer to the former University of Florida defensive end who they drafted as the No. 8 pick in last April's college draft. The offer is real close to splitting the difference of what the No. 7 pick and No. 9 picks in the draft signed for, but Harvey's agent, Ken Kremer, turned a thumb's down on the team's latest proposal.
