In their final opportunity to impress the coaching staff, the Jaguars put their collective best feet…
Jags Close Preseason with Blowout
Offensively, Chauncey Washington led the way with 108 total yards, including 68 on the ground from 11 carries. Jaguars backup quarterback Cleo Lemon was especially sharp, completing 10 of 13 passes for 97 yards and a quarterback rating of 122.9. Wide receiver Troy Williamson likely earned a roster spot by catching four passes for 84 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Todd Bouman.
Defensively, a mixture of Jaguars starters and backups stymied the home team, as Washington was hoping to gain some positivity entering the regular season. Starting quarterback Jason Campbell completed just one pass in four attempts for three yards including a Mike Peterson interception.
The one major negative for the Jaguars was the injury to starting guard Maurice Williams, who went down with what's being reported as a knee sprain. He will likely have an MRI upon his return to Jacksonville, and his status for the Jaguars opener at Tennessee is in doubt.
As meaningless as the preseason is in terms of standings, the Jaguars and Redskins appear to be two teams headed in opposite directions. Following a dismal performance against Miami, the Jaguars followed up with two solid outings on the road, where Washington has been outscored 71-6 in its last two games.
