NFL Prospect Profile - Knowshon Moreno
Moreno's backfield mate, quarterback Matt Stafford also declared on Wednesday, which likely had an effect on Moreno's choice to go pro.
"It could affect me, but at the same time we have a great offensive line coming back," Moreno said when asked if Stafford's decision would effect his own. "We've got Joe Cox, who's a great quarterback coming back, so those things are really great for this team."
The fabulous redshirt sophomore back finished 2008 with 1,338 yards on 227 carries, with 16 rushing touchdowns without being the team's top option offensively. Moreno also caught 27 passes for 329 yards and another touchdown. His 62 yards rushing in the Capital One Bowl put him at an even 1,400 for the season, as he joined Herschel Walker as the only two Bulldogs backs to ever record back-to-back 1,000 yard campaigns.
One of the question marks surrounding Knowshon Moreno has been his breakaway speed, but he's been ultra-productive against some of the finest competition in the nation playing in the SEC, and he's shown an ability to be very elusive. Moreno is also a tough, inside runner who doesn't have to be taken out of the game in short-yardage situations. As complete of a back as Knowshon appears to be, he knows that there is always room for improvement.
"I still have to work on blocking and reading defenses and stuff like that," Moreno said. When the time comes and I make that decision I'll get better at that."
Although Moreno's Georgia team was ranked number one in the nation in preseason, they fell short of their enormous expectations mainly due to a myriad of injuries. Still, Moreno appreciated what his team was able to accomplish and his time at Georgia.
"We didn't end up where we wanted to be, we wanted to win a national championship. But I think every guy on this team made the best of our opportunities. We had a lot of injuries this year, but I think the guys behind them really stepped up to fill in that gap and make plays for us, but we're happy to be here in Orlando and come out with a victory," Moreno said following the Capital One Bowl victory in which he sealed the game with a 21-yard touchdown reception.
Moreno reflected back to his time at Georgia when we asked him what his best memory was—
"I think just celebrating with my team, when we have those big victories. Being in the locker room with all the guys knowing that all the hard work that we've gone through each week and the offseason really paid off."
Moreno is a hard-worker and a phenomenal talent who can instantly be a 1000-yard professional back.
"Moreno is a gifted offensive weapon who is a threat to take it to the house anytime he touches the ball," Scout NFL Draft Expert Chris Steuber said. "He has a quick first step and is lethal on the edge."
Whichever team that calls Knowshon's name on draft day will be selecting a winner, and he should help his new team with immediate dividends.
