Jaguars Report Card - Tight End

Marcedes Lewis (David Zalubowski/AP)

JagNation continues to look at the Jaguars, position by position, and give our final evaluation of what happened during the 2008 season. We're going to move to the tight end position next.

Marcedes Lewis - 41 receptions, 489 yards, 2 TD's

Greg Estandia - 10 receptions, 113 yards

Richard Angulo - 8 receptions, 63 yards

George Wrighster - 2 receptions, 35 yards

Positives- Marcedes Lewis has turned into an elite blocker, and his nearly 6'8" frame provides a great pass catching target. Estandia is a legitimate 6'8" who offers a big target in the seam. Angulo is a solid blocker with above average hands, and Wrighster has great athleticism and very good hands.

Negatives- Where Marcedes Lewis showed an ability to make the highlight film catch, he dropped several easy passes in 2008. Estandia has inconsistent hands and isn't a great blocker. Angulo is a one-dimensional blocking tight end who struggles to get open. Wrighster struggles to stay healthy and isn't a superior blocker.

Overall- The Jaguars have plenty of talent at the tight end position and Marcedes Lewis could be a star if he can learn to make the easy catch. If Wrighster can stay healthy, he can certainly be a weapon in the passing game. Estandia and Angulo are just guys.

Solution-
With Lewis and Wrighster in the team's plans, it is doubtful that the Jaguars look to acquire any free agents or spend an early draft pick on the tight end position.

Overall grade: C
