As predicted, the Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired a backup quarterback to push David Garrard this season. The Jaguars made a trade for Tampa Bay quarterback, Luke McCown.

As first reported by Michael Wright of the Florida Times-Union, the Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Luke McCown for an undisclosed 2010 draft choice.

Luke McCown - 28 years old, 6'3," 212 pounds, five years of experience, seven career starts

Luke McCown was a former fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns. He played his college football at Louisiana Tech. McCown went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005, traded during the draft, and has been waiting in the wings ever since. He's been regarded by the Bucs as a potential long term starter, but he never seems to get the chance to fully embrace it. His first start in the NFL came in 2007 in place of an injured Jeff Garcia, and McCown led the Bucs to a win over the New Orleans Saints throwing for over 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns. McCown has very good athleticism for a quarterback and can make a lot of plays on the move and with his legs. His arm is adequate enough to make all of the throws required in the NFL and is usually a preseason All-Star.

McCown showed himself well in Jacksonville on August 22nd, as he completed six of nine passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns. McCown had a passer rating of 120.8.

The acquisition of McCown, pending physical, allows the Jaguars the flexibility of having a younger backup quarterback and this could lead to the release of veteran Todd Bouman, who was certainly inconsistent throughout the preseason.
