The Jaguars will also release offensive tackle Tra Thomas who was signed in the offseason. Thomas was signed to what many would describe as a "hometown deal", as he is from the DeLand area. He was signed to be a "just in case" player, as the Jaguars were not sure who they could get in the first round of last year's draft, but had a desperate need at the left tackle position. Thomas started three games during the season while the Jaguars were working in rookie first-round draft pick Eugene Monroe. Thomas had a great game in Week Four against the Tennessee Titans, which prompted the Jaguars to start him in their 41-0 blowout loss the following week in Seattle. Thomas would start just one more game after that and bounced on and off the Jaguars injury report. It was pretty clear Thomas' body, being in his 12th season, couldn't handle the workload anymore.
While these two are the only confirmed players to be released this week, today (Feb. 8th) is when teams can officially release players. There are a few more players that many speculate the Jacksonville Jaguars could release in the near future, including veteran center Brad Meester and tight end Ernest Wilford.
