Jaguars Notes and Quotes
-- RB Maurice Jones-Drew will not play in the team's final two preseason games, but is expected to be ready for the regular-season opener.
Jones-Drew has been sitting out practice with an undisclosed injury, but the move is believed to be precautionary. He did not travel with the team to Tampa Bay, and coach Jack Del Rio said the majority of the team's starters will sit out Thursday's preseason finale against Atlanta.
--Jaguars quarterback David Garrard has dealt with plenty of adversity in his eight previous seasons with the team, so the latest controversy was one in which he could cope with. It had gained fan momentum following Garrard's sub-par effort in the preseason opener against Philadelphia in which he completed five passes for 35 yards while backup Luke McCown was an impressive 11-of-15, 244 yards, 3 TDs and a QB rating of 154.9, nearly 100 points better than Garrard's 58.3.
g this past week, Garrard took any notion that he shouldn't be the team's starter in stride.
"You have to brush your shoulders off and keep moving," he said. "It would be different if we were outnumbered, outgunned and didn't have a chance. But that wasn't even it. It was more of us not doing our job (against Philadelphia)."
Garrard then turned in an impressive performance in leading the Jaguars on a 78-yard scoring drive in the team's second possession in the Miami game.
--The Jaguars still have around 3,000 season tickets left to sell to avoid regular-season blackouts, but the club lifted the blackout for the preseason home opener last Saturday against Miami, and will most likely do the same for the other preseason home game in two weeks with Atlanta.
"We're getting there slowly but surely," said Macky Weaver, the team's senior vice president/sales and marketing.
The team announced that over 62,000 tickets were distributed for the Miami game, a game which was delayed by lightning for an hour and 45 minutes due to lightning in the area.
The Jaguars are hopeful of selling the remaining season tickets through group sales, half-season packets and single-game sales.
The regular season home-opener will likely be a sellout due to the presence of hometown celebrity and former University of Florida standout, Tim Tebow.
